Joshua 1:8

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shall meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shall make thy way prosperous and then thou shall have good success.

Joshua received specific instructions on how to use "this book of the law", known to us today as the Holy Bible.

  • God promised Joshua if he walked in these principles, he would make his way prosperous and have good success.

  • This promise is still available to us today. The key to obtaining it: "Biblical Meditation".

  • Unlike eastern meditation which involves emptying the mind, Biblical Meditation involves filling the mind, with God's word.

  • We discovered four basic principles within Joshua 1:8 that define the lost art of Biblical Meditation.

 1st Principle; Retaining God's word

Joshua  1:8 starts out saying; This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth. Most people misinterpret the first part of this scripture by stating that it means to keep speaking the word. But if we are speaking the words aren't they leaving our mouth, and the verse specifically states not to let it depart our mouth.
Therefore what does it mean to not let the words depart your mouth and how do we do it?

  • This is the principle of Retaining God's word by storing information efficiently.

  • Store:  To put something in a place for future use.

 RENEWING THE MIND

Joshua 1:8 says next: but thou shalt meditate therein day and night.

  • This is the principle of Renewing the mind by studying God's word effectively.

  • Study:  The devotion of time and attention to acquiring knowledge.

 RECEIVING GOD'S WORD

Joshua 1:8 continues: that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein:

  • This is the principle of Receiving God's Word by striving for spiritual excellence.

  • Strive:  To make earnest effort to achieve or obtain something.

REDEEMING THE TIME

Joshua 1:8 concludes; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

  • This is the principle of Redeeming the time by standing firm in expectation.

  • Stand: To endure, bear patiently or undergo successfully.
